Habitat for Humanity is a global nonprofit housing organization working in local communities across all 50 states in the U.S. and in approximately 70 countries. Habitat’s vision is of a world where everyone has a decent place to live.
Habitat works towards their vision by building strength, stability and self-reliance in partnership with families in need of decent and affordable housing. Habitat homeowners help build their own homes alongside volunteers and pay an affordable mortgage.
Barker Lemar Engineering Consultants (BLEC) was initially incorporated as Barker Environmental Services in July 1995. It was the belief of its founders Mike Barker and Tracy Lemar that clients were best served in a partnership where we become invested in finding solutions that are both practical and affordable. It was, and still is, the company’s practice to work closely with your team to gain a deeper understanding of your operations, your needs, and your expectations.
We believe in the work we do. We provide solid waste engineering and compliance; petroleum assessment, remediation, repair and construction; training; ecological assessments; and air, land, and water regulatory services across the Midwest. Our team of engineers, licensed professionals and technical staff share a commitment to the preservation of our environment and thoughtful use of our resources. Through development of sustainable practices and implementation of innovative solutions, we are your partner to navigate design, construction, regulation and conservation.
Barker Lemar kicked off our 'Grander Vision' campaign in 2016, committing ourselves to servicing the needs of our community outside the parameters of our business service offerings. This included a variety of new programs and corporate goals that demonstrate our commitment to leaving a legacy larger than our environmental impacts; providing volunteer days, sponsored events, and charitable giving opportunities, among them. The Greater Des Moines Habitat for Humanity was chosen collectively by our staff as our focus for 2018. Through volunteering at construction builds, assisting at the ReStore and monetary charitable giving, we are proud to lend a helping hand to an organization that is strengthening our community.
